certification standards
Listening Spaces Network
Ireland Chapter
Listening Spaces Network certifies independent businesses and venues that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to prioritising emerging local music within their own regions.
Certification reflects participation in a structured, accountable framework designed to strengthen regional listening culture.
The following standards apply to all Certified Listening Spaces.
Independent Operation
Certified Listening Spaces must be independently owned or operated businesses or community venues.
Priority is given to businesses that contribute directly to their local community and cultural ecosystem.
Corporate chains are reviewed separately to maintain regional integrity.
Regional Commitment
Certified Listening Spaces must operate within an active Listening Circle region and prioritise artists based within that region.
The focus of certification is local sound, heard locally.
Integration of Emerging Artists
Certified Listening Spaces commit to regularly integrating emerging regional artists into their programming.
This may include:
• Background music programming
• Curated playlists
• Artist features
• Listening sessions
• Promotional visibility within the space
Consistency is expected, not token participation.
Public Identification
Certified Listening Spaces agree to:
• Display Listening Spaces Network identification (digital or physical)
• Appear on the public Listening Spaces Network map
• Publicly align with their regional Listening Circle
Certification status is visible and accountable.
Ongoing Participation
ertification is reviewed annually.
Certified Listening Spaces are expected to maintain active participation in their regional Listening Circle and uphold the integrity of the network.
Failure to meet standards may result in certification review.
Annual Certification
Certification is granted on an annual basis and contributes to maintaining regional programming, infrastructure, and network development.
Our Principle
Listening is a cultural act.
Independent businesses and independent artists form the foundation of regional music ecosystems.
Listening Spaces Network exists to strengthen that foundation through structured, accountable participation.
